Rec & Roll: How the University of Denver is using their app for more than varsity athletics

Written by Justin Wieners | September 15, 2021

By adding rec membership and facility info, Denver Athletics is rethinking the model of how college athletic departments put their mobile apps to use.

The Denver Athletics & Recreation App gives DU fans a place to follow all their favorite Pioneer varsity sports in one place, but there's also a little something for the rec league all-stars. Alumni, students, and friends of DU can access information about memberships, facilities, tee times, and camp registrations in the app as well.

The DU App includes gameday info, rosters, real-time stats & schedules for all 18 Pioneer varsity teams. Fans can listen to live broadcasts and get exclusive gameday updates no matter where they are.

The University also offers more than 30 different club sports, including baseball, ultimate frisbee, and kayaking. Their student-run teams compete locally, regionally and nationally in intercollegiate competition. The app aims to support and encourage this section of students looking for healthy competition and new friendships.
